Elevating the power of plants with biotechnology

09/07/2021 /
While the demand for green beauty products has been on the rise, there’s still a «Hippie» stereotype lingering around phyto-cosmetics, as if nature and science were mutually exclusive.

Newsflash: they are not. Quite the opposite actually, they are fully compatible.

This is where biotechnology comes in: it refers to nature-derived ingredients created in a laboratory setting. Technology, used at the service of botanical ingredients, can do wonders.

Biotechnological advances enhance and magnify the potent power of plants. This synergy is the recipe for effective and result-driven skincare products.

Biotech helps develop optimum delivery methods for topical application and ensures that all compounds are stable during formulation. Lab-made ingredients also go through strict testing measures and guarantee the same stability, efficacy, purity for every ingredient.

Sophisticated bio-fermentation, a mix between active ingredients and laboratory microbes (yeast, bacteria, etc.), truly elevates the potency in skincare products.

Last but not least, Biotech skincare may hold a sustainable value. Lab-produced substances are, in essence, taking fewer resources: less land, water, energy, and sun.

Here are some examples of popular bio-tech skincare ingredients:

Vitamin C: a renowned antioxidant that is used topically for hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. Found in multiples plants and berries, vitamin C is, unfortunately, by nature, highly unstable thus very difficult to incorporate in cosmetics formula appropriately. This is where biotech can help: current research and testings are done to create stable compounds of vitamin C to ensure optimum efficiency and great delivery into the dermis.

Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the human body, and because of its high moisture retention, it has become highly popular in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Due to the huge demand, Hyaluronic acid is also extracted from animal tissues, leading to concerns over animal rights and its safety since it can contain bacterial endotoxins. Hence, it is crucial to find alternative sources, and microbial fermentation has emerged as a new technique for Hyaluronic Acid production. Microbial fermentation is free of animal-derived raw materials and organic solvents. It also allows manufacturing the products with targeted molecular weights (lower molecular weights penetrates the epidermis for a smoothening and plumping effect while medium and high molecular weight bring moisturising care.)

Stoppox®: is a natural antioxidant specifically created for cosmetics and fragrances performing like synthetic alternatives, minus the inconveniences associated with them. It is made with 100% natural ingredients without the oxidation risks linked to them. A common antioxidant, Vitamin E (tocopherol), is widely used in formulas, however when used on its own, it starts oxidating itself, and all benefits are lost. Stoppox® ensures high stability extends products life while reducing irritants and allergens significantly.

At INARI Arctic Beauty, we constantly stay up-to-date with the latest bio-innovations to provide you with result-driven and safe beauty products. Our Arctic Botanical Complex rounded up nature’s highly resilient Arctic plants and berries, and thanks to biotechnology, we’ve been able to reinforce their potency while removing impurities and irritants.
